Visas

Tourist visa is now valid 28 days and can be obtained through Myanmar embassies or consulates abroad.
As of September 1st 2010, tourists will no longer be able to obtain a visa upon arrival at the Mingalardon airport, as the government seeks to tighten security ahead of the November election. Visas on arrival had been previously issued at Rangoon and Mandalay International Airports, but the service has been temporarily suspended since the November 7 general election.
In Bangkok the visa can be obtained in 2 or 3 days and costs around US$ 18. Bring along 3 photos. Address : 132 North Sathorn Road, Bangrak, Bangkok 10500 (easily accessible with the BTS sky train, Sasuk Station, Tel : 236 6899, 234 2237; Fax: 236 6898). Opening hours 09:00 am.

Money - Currency
No more compulsory FEC 200 change on arrival.
The Kyat is the everyday national currency and will be used in restaurants, shops and markets.

Today, Mai 2013, you can obtain around 902 Kyats for 1$ and 1045 Kyats for 1 €.

In Yangon and Mandalay, your currencies can be exchanged in the banks.

Actually, you will find some ATM in Yangon and Mandalay where you can use your credit card (VISA). However travellers cheques are still not accepted.

Change : Euro - dollars ?

Our advice : If you are native from the Euro Zone, bring only new € notes (10, 20, 50, 100, 200 or 500€). Once in Yangon, you will get a good rate change (around 15% more than with US$). Ask your guide to help you where to make change or to make change for you.

Bring also a variety of US$ for expenses like hotels, flights, pagoda entrance fees and to make change, if necessary, in the countryside. Today, Euro € can be changed in Yangon, Mandalay and Bagan but payment in this currency is still not accepted.

If you are not from the Euro Zone, bring only US$.

For your travel please be aware that in Myanmar (Burma) only almost new US$ or Euros are accepted. The US$ and € bank notes won˙t be accepted in payment if they are torn, dirty, damaged, discoloured, stamped, written, stained, folded, pierced or wearing no clear figure. US$ bearing the serial number CB are often not accepted. I am sorry to tell you that, but this depends on the Myanmar˙s currency system.

Exchange office at the airport

Today you can change your currencies at the KBZ counter at Mingarladon airport at your arrival. The change rate is better than in the down town banks.
