Information concerning prices at hotels and guest houses, your reservations for the High Season in Myanmar – Burma 2013-2014

The dramatic rise in hotel prices is still continuing - low season prices for summer 2013 are already higher than the winter high season 2012/2013.

The increase in prices for winter 2013-2014 could be between 50% and 130% for certain hotels. For Ngapali or Inle they are spectacular. We must warn you, however, that unfortunately the quality of service has not improved accordingly!

Many hotels now insist on non-returnable advance deposits for the reservations and use “High Season prices” from November until the end of February in particular during the festive season when Christmas and New Year meals are compulsory.

Estimated prices for 2013-2014:

  • 4 star hotels: 200 USD
  • 3 star hotels: more than 100 USD
  • Hotels on piles, even very modest, at lake Inle often over 100 USD
  • Small 2 star hotels at Yangon, Mandalay and Inle are between 50 and 100 USD
  • Luxury hotels at Ngapali, (also modest ones), are very high priced! For example:
  • 200 USD for a luxury room to 500 USD for a room on the beach or a bungalow.
  • Very modest hotels/guest houses which cost 15 $ 2 years ago would now cost 30 or 40 $!
  • There are still a few guest houses, very basic, with toilet facilities on each floor which are more or less reasonable, but these are becoming very rare.

Latest News, June 2011

I have to inform you that due to the drop of the exchange rate of the US$, the expenses of your travel in Myanmar will be, from now on, charged in Euros (€).

For your information, today the change is less than 750 kyats for 1 US$, which has for consequence the increase of the amount to be spent in US$.

Even that, I can assure you that, as usual, I shall provide you with the best services during your travel in Myanmar.

Concerning the currencies you are taken for your travel, please be aware that in Myanmar (Burma) only almost new dollars or euros are accepted. The bank notes will be refused for payment if they are torn, dirty, damaged, discoloured, stamped, written, stained, folded, pierced or wearing no clear figure. Finally, US$ bearing the serial number CB won't be accepted. I am sorry to tell you that, but this is depending on the Myanmar's currency system.

If you're reading this, you are sitting where we were a month ago, in the back of Tin Aung Soe's cab, reading his book of recommendations, and feeling sceptical. Perhaps you're like we were: first time in Myanmar, have only a short time to explore it, want some solid advice about where to go and ...
